Rebellion and How it's Viewed By a Teenage Girl
Smart Kid
This was an essay written by my teen daughter and I thought I would post it on HubPages because the depth of her thinking amazes me. Many of us parents don't give our kids enough credit for how smart they are. If we take a minute and listen, sometimes we might learn a thing or two from our kids. Read the short essay below regarding how my kid views rebellion and why people tend to do it.
Although there are many people that follow the rules in society there are a lot that rebel against it. There are many reasons as to why people do this. It could be that they are insane and need to be put away for a very long time or it could just be the people around them that they want to rebel against. I think that humanity has progressed by more than just rules.
First, we’ve progressed with technology. People use technology every day in life now more than they ever used to using text, email and talking on the phone. The friends they talk to influence their decisions and how they act in life. The friends who tell you that it makes you cool to do something are wrong and I don’t think anyone should follow this peer pressure, but they do.
Second, humanity rebels also because of not only strict households but lenient ones too. Rebelling children are usually said to live in strict households and you would never think that they would be apt to rebel with being raise under such stringent rules. In a lenient household we sometimes expect a child to be a bit rebellious so we tend to not really consider it rebellion. When a child rebels it’s not only against someone or something but it's sometimes against themselves.
Lastly, I know many may say that people that have strict rules in their house saying that you can’t do certain things or have strict curfews doesn’t make them rebel. Many also say that the more lenient households allow their kids to do more than the average kids make them more independent and sometimes delinquents. This however doesn’t make kids rebel and it is much more than just the rules in your house to make someone rebel against others or even themselves.
In conclusion, humanity has progressed not only by rules and technology but by other factors as well. People are insane and rebel and some people are normal and rebel. Some even rebel because their peers tell them it is the right thing to do. What we really need to do is ask ourselves a question. Are we rebelling because of what we believe, or what we think is right? Learn how to think and you’ll never get caught up in what someone is saying to believe.
