How To Create Indoor Winter Gardens

You can have a winter garden
Even though you are starting to get the first frost of the year on your garden it's still possible to enjoy the year round ambiance of a garden even during the harshest of winters. There are many ways to accomplish this even if you don't live in a warm climate.
One of the first ideas that come to mind is create your own indoor garden by building or purchasing a planter box to set in a window. Many home improvement stores sell these year round and there are even some that are specifically made for indoor use. Plastic works best however a wooden one with a liner can accomplish the same with a bit more decor value. You can plant many types of vegetables and some fruits that are not too large. Manage your planter like you would a miniature garden and you will enjoy the harvest for months when the weather outside is frigid.
To give your indoor garden a touch of the outdoors bring some of your garden decor inside during the winter months. Hang some wind chimes over it or place a butterfly stake in the dirt. This will give your indoor garden a feel of summer warming your heart through the cold winter months. You can even place a small indoor fountain next to it that will give you an oasis to relax in.
For the more serious gardener you could use a hydroponics system. Hydroponic systems are more expensive but will give you the most out of your harvest. These systems require nutrient enriched flowing water throughout the system to grow your garden. Even thought they are not as stylish you can still decorate with your garden decor to bring the outdoors inside. Hydroponics is not the first choice for many indoor gardeners for the reason of complexity and expense however it is an option for some.
By all means creating an indoor garden area to relax with is not only therapeutic but it also serves a practical role in producing organic products that you can actually use. Next time you’re in your local home improvement store check into the different options you have for creating a winter garden and you'll be surprised what you can come up with. Don't forget the garden decor to give your indoor garden a personal touch. Check out some of the indoor gardening products below for more ideas.
