The evolution of the slingshot

Slingshots have been around in one form or another for thousands of years where they were used for hunting animals for food. If you've ever heard of the story about David and Goliath it references an older version of the slingshot used to defend himself against a giant. Since biblical times a crude version was made using sting and a pocket of cloth to hold the rock or projectile. it took unprecedented skill to aim and release the projectile in the direction you wanted it to go. Back then there were no slingshots for sale and you had to make your own then search for a good rock to use as a projectile. I still remember my first one that a neighbor made for me and my brother. It was a simple tree branch cut to size and then he attached cut out from a rubber inner tube from a bicycle tire. As long as it had the elasticity to fling the projectile at the target, then it was all about your aim. Over the years slingshots have evolved and have turned into a sport that still takes skill however with all the technology out today, manufacturers have made it easier to hit your target. This may be less of a challenge but it is certainly still as fun as ever to use.

Wooden Slingshots

First came the wooden slingshot and it typically was carved from a block of hardwood or a perfectly formed branch from a tree made it easier to make the slingshot. If you're looking for wooden slingshots for sale, you can still find them on the market today. They are typically less expensive than the professional titanium or metal models however they can still be deadly accurate. If you're looking for recreational use such as shooting cans or bottles, then a wooden version is probably the way to go because it gives you a challenge. If you're very handy with a pocket knife, you could carve your own out of a piece of good wood. There are some easier ways to make your own out of almost any type of wood and some surgical tubing, such as the one shown in the video just below. If you're not sure how to aim them you can check out some videos online on how to aim a traditional slingshot without sights as seen in the following video.

Metal Versions

Since the wooden slingshot there has been multiple versions of metal slingshots for sale with many bells and whistles such as laser sights, wrist supports and extra stiff bands for more power. If you're in to competition shooting or hunting then this type of slingshot will work much better for you. There are many different brands and styles of these slingshots so which one is best for you? Many of the professional level slingshots for sale are priced sometimes in the hundreds of dollars however most won't need this level of slingshot. Some of the best slingshots are made by Laserhawk, Cobra and Am Kavia which are professional grade yet they are not professional grade prices. Surprisingly you can find these priced from under $10 and you can add the bells and whistles later with many accessories that are offered at discount prices all over the internet. One of the most versatile slingshots for sale is the Pro Diablo 2 shown in the picture above. It retails for right around $35 however I was able to find it for less than $25 at many online retailers. This is a professional grade slingshot with soft grips, stabilizer and sight for accuracy for a discount price of only $23.97. if you want to try something different then look at some of the slingshots for sale and choose one that fits your budget and you'll have a ball when learning how to shoot it.

What To Use For Ammo

Back in ancient times slingshots were loaded with a perfect size rock that would cut through the air for maximum accuracy. Today there is steel shot, marbles, ball bearings and other rounded type objects will work fine. Steel ball bearings are the ammo of choice and are used for target practice, hunting and competition shooting. Different sizes and calibers are used for the different uses. What ever you decide to use for ammo, if shooting your sling shot from long range be sure to choose something that is as round as possible to give yourself a better chance at hitting your intended target.
